Joint Implementation of the Karakuram Trust Activities in the Central Karakuram National Park

CKNP is located in Gilgit, Skardu and Ganche Districts of Pakistan’s Northern Areas. It was proclaimed a national park in 1993. The main attraction of CKNP is K2, the second highest peak in the world. CKNP comprises the largest glacial system in the world outside the Polar region.
The park boasts rich biodiversity, cultural heritage, mountainous landscape, glaciers and high mountains. It harbours a number of globally threatened wildlife species such as the Snow Leopard, Black Bear, Markhor, Himalayan Ibex, Lynx, Fox, Golden Mermot, Musk Deer. Relief Activities of Palas Valley

Summary
The massive earthquake during October 2005 in Northern Pakistan had inflicted damages on community and private infrastructures in Palas valley that exacerbated the misery of people due to their poverty and the tough physical and weather conditions in the area. In the backdrop of human suffering, BirdLife International managed to raise funds for rehabilitation of infrastructure in Palas Valley. Works were initially started on the reconstruction of bridle paths that were necessary to claim access to the earthquake affected area in Palas valley. Conservation of Mangrove Ecosystem at Keti Bunder

Keti Bunder is located on the east of Karachi in Thatta District. It is the component of Inmdus Delta mudflats and mangrove swamps. There are approximately 75599 ha of mangrove forest along Keti Bunder. The dominant species of mangroves in the area is Avicenna marina, whereas Rhizophora mucronata and Ceriops togal also exist in some areas. The communities use mangrove as fuelwood and fodder for their livestock. This causes extensive damage to mangrove ecosystem. .....more

The Central Karakoram National Park (CKNP) is the largest National Park of Pakistan located in an extremely rugged area in Karkoram Range. There are four main types of forests including Montane Dry Temperate Coniferous, Montane Dry Temperate Broadleaved, Sub-Alpine and Northern Dry Scrub forests. The study area harbors a great faunal diversity.
