Summary
CKNP is located in Gilgit, Skardu and Ganche Districts of Pakistan’s Northern Areas. It was proclaimed a national park in 1993. The main attraction of CKNP is K2, the second highest peak in the world. CKNP comprises the largest glacial system in the world outside the Polar region.
The park boasts rich biodiversity, cultural heritage, mountainous landscape, glaciers and high mountains. It harbours a number of globally threatened wildlife species such as the Snow Leopard, Black Bear, Markhor, Himalayan Ibex, Lynx, Fox, Golden Mermot, Musk Deer. Flora include the pine, birch, juniper and a variety of medicinal and aromatic plants.
Objective
- Protect and conserve CKNP's natural resource base, biodiversity and ecosystems.
- Implement selected activities related to the management of the park.
