Message from Mr. Asif Ali Zardari President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan
(For Earth Hour- 2011 on 26th March, 2011)

I call upon people to join the international community in enthusiastically observing the Earth Hour tomorrow March, 26 by voluntarily switching off extra lights for an hour between 8:30 pm to 9:30pm.

It was necessary to save energy not only because there is power shortage in the country but also for preserving the environment for a better future.

Conservation of energy would make it available for other worthwhile uses besides inculcating the habit of shunning extravagance and helping create a sustainable environment.

The observance of the Earth Hour today along with the international community and widespread participation in it by Pakistanis was also important for the country’s international image as a nation that takes seriously issues to concern to the whole mankind.

Even if power was available in abundance, which unfortunately is not the case, even then we needed to be careful in the utilization of available resources.

Our world is a global village with finite resources which must be used in a manner that brought maximum good to maximum number of people.

I once again felicitate the Environment Ministry on overseeing the observance of Earth Hour and wish them success in their endeavor.
