Message from Mian Hamza Sharif,( Member National Assembly of Pakistan)
(For Earth Hour- 2011 on 26th March, 2011)

At no point in time of our country’s 63-year history has Pakistan’s growing dependence on secure sources of electrical energy been more evident than during the current nation-wide electricity deficit. Load shedding has, for the time being, become a complex and annoying phenomenon. It is, however, also a constant reminder of our society’s need to use our God-given energy resources more conservatively and wisely in the face of global energy uncertainties. During this ongoing shortfall of electrical energy, many people have been left with a feeling of helplessness. Despite these challenges there are several initiatives that we can take to reduce the adverse effects of the power shortage: We can individually and collectively conserve what energy we have by exercising control over our energy use patterns.

I am appealing to the people of my country to join us during Earth Hour 2011 and demonstrate our solidarity with environmentally conscious people everywhere by turning off household lights between 8:30 – 9:30 pm on Saturday, March 26th, 2011.
