MESSAGE OF MR.ALTAF HUSSAIN FOR EARTH HOUR 2012

Pakistan is deficient in energy resources. Persistent neglect in exploring new and cheap energy sources has increased the reliance on burning fossil fuels. It not only costs heavily in terms of precious foreign exchange, but also increases the carbon emissions in the atmosphere, which results in global warming and climate change.

The world weather is changing rapidly due to the phenomenon of global warming of global warming, as a result of the emission of green-house gases in the atmosphere. In Pakistan, the change in climate has resulted in heavy rain falls and flooding due to which million of people have been displayed from their homes.
It is our duty as responsible citizens to think about our planet and take steps for restoring the balance in the ecosystem. We must not squander our limited energy resources senselessly. Even a small action of switching off one unnecessary light can have a significant effect on saving energy and hence protecting our planet.
It is time that we seriously start thinking about alternate energy resources, such as wind energy and solar energy, to reduce the burning of fossil fuels. Pakistan is endowed with abundant water resources. These renewable resources must be harnessed to generate cheap and clean power.

I am happy to learn that the WWF is celebrating the Earth Hour on 31 March to create awareness about saving our planet. One small step can become one giant leap if we all make a resolve to protect our planet, .I would appeal to the people of Pakistan to switch off all unnecessary lights from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm on Saturday, the 31st of March 2012, and join hands with the rest of the world.
