WWF – Pakistan celebrated –Earth Day (Saving Nature with WWF – Pakistan and Levi)

WWF - Pakistan in collaboration with Levi’s has organised a national wide Earth day campaign with theme ‘I love earth’. The main aim of the campaign was to raise awareness, volunteerism and activation to save the nature with people.

In Lahore ‘Earth Day- Film Festival’ was held at the Auditorium of Ali Institute of Education on April 24th, 2009. Students from over twenty five schools, colleges and universities, their families and volunteers from different walks of life enthusiastically participated in the event. Number of short duration documentaries of WWF – Pakistan on important environmental and wildlife issues was shown along with “An Inconvenient truth” to the participants. These documentaries covered diverse topics such as deforestation and Green turtles. The participants also had the opportunity to participate in exciting range of activities including the environmental quiz show and various games.
In Karachi more than 700 participants from different walks of life including students, volunteers, and media personals removed litter from Karachi’s Sandspit Beach, a globally significant turtle nesting beach on April 22nd, 2009.
Likewise, Rawal Dam Park cleaning activity was carried out in Islamabad on April 26th, 2009. Nearly 29 educational institutions with more than 400 students participated in the activity. Activity did not only involved students from the participating institutions, but looking at them visitors, who were there to enjoy their holiday at Rawal Dam park, also joined these students in cleaning the park.
WWF is the world’s leading conservation organization. WWF-Pakistan strives to carry out global conservation initiatives within the context of national priorities. An important part of conservation is building capacity of individuals to take care of their environment in a better way. Nature Carnivals are a good way to communicate with public and educate them about the significance of nature conservation.
